Introduction

If you’re like most people, you’re probably awed by the exotic fantasy worlds shown in films like Avatar and Star Wars. But most of these films are shot entirely on a green (or blue screen), which is later replaced using a chroma key video editor

Chroma key and the green screen has made it easy for filmmakers to get more creative than ever before. And you can do the same with your business, marketing, social media, and entertainment videos.

All you need to do is shoot your video in front of a green or blue screen and use a chroma key video editor to add a different background.

1.

Step 1 of How to Make A Green Screen Video-Upload Video

Click on the Chroma Key CTA.

In the upload panel, add the video with a green or blue screen.

Step 2 of How to Remove Green Screen-Change Background

Keevi’s chroma key video editor will add your video to the timeline.

Click the video’s sub-track on the timeline. Under “Video Settings” enable the video chroma key.

This will remove the background, leaving a blank canvas.

If you’re not happy with the green screen removal, adjust the sensitivity to perfect it.

Add your preferred video or picture as the new background. You can use your own or choose one from our rich library of royalty-free images and videos.

Ensure the added video or image is the same length and width as the blank canvas by dragging it by the edges.

If the intended new background is in front of the subject, right-click and select Bring to Back.

Play around with the effects and filters to make the video more realistic.

If the final destination of your video is social media, adjust its aspect ratio to fit the recommended size. Feel free to apply any of Keevi’s preset aspect ratios for any social network of your choice.

You can also enhance your video by adding:

  • Text. Animate it, change its font colour and size to suit your taste.
  • Images, audio, and any other form of media.
  • Subtitles. You can translate the subtitles.
  • Stickers like emojis.

Step 3 of Using Green Screen Editor Online-Export

How Does a Video Chroma Key Work?

Chroma key works by first shooting the video in front of a green screen. Next, using Keevi’s chroma key video editor, remove the green backdrop and replace it with a background of your choice. The new background can be in the form of a video or picture. This background removal is known as “chroma keying.”

How Do I Use an Online Chroma Key Without a Green Screen?

If you can’t use a green screen because something in your subject is green, such as a plant, you can use a blue screen. But ensure nothing else in the video is blue during the shoot.

Alternatively, shoot your video in any environment, then use the “Remove Background” function on Keevi and add any video or image as your new background.

Which Color is Best For Chroma Key Video Editor?

Green and blue are the most common colors for video chroma key. This is because the two colours are very different from the human skin tone and hair colour. Green is a better option than blue, it is easier to illuminate and produces a cleaner result from “chroma keying.”

How Do I Make a Green Screen?

You can make a green screen by painting a smooth cardboard or wall green. This will give you a consistent surface free from wrinkles. But it’s not the best option when you want to move the green screen around.

If you’re looking for portability, dye a white fabric green. You want to go for a bright green tint, not a dark shade (google "chroma key paint" to get the right shade) The material:

  • Shouldn’t be too reflective.
  • Should be easy to iron.
  • Should be heavy to prevent anything behind the screen from showing through.

Tips for Professional Green Screen Removal

  • The colours in the video should be in contrast to the green background, such as black, purple, and blue. Only the background should be green. The chroma key video editor will remove every green part in the video. This means if the subject is wearing anything green or there’s a green item in the video, it will become transparent.
  • Avoid wearing shiny fabric and accessories.
  • If necessary, use a blue background instead of green, as long as nothing else in the video is blue.
  • It’s best to use a camera that can shoot in HD quality. You can use a smartphone to shoot, especially if it can shoot in MP4 or MOV.
  • Keep the camera stable when shooting to avoid shaky footage and keep the picture quality of the final product high.
  • Get adequate and even lighting to illuminate the green screen and the subject separately to avoid shadows. The bigger the green screen, the more lighting you should have. The lights should be from similar sources. Alternatively, shoot the video outside under natural light.
  • The green sheet you use in the background should be perfectly smooth and flat.
  • Have as much space as possible between the green or blue background and the subject. If they’re too close, the subject will have a greenish or bluish hue. There should also be enough space between the green screen and your light sources.
  • You don’t have to spend a fortune getting a green or blue background. You can use construction paper, paint a wall, or buy wrinkle-free fabric in the colour.
  • Cut out the unnecessary parts of the video before adding your new background.

Why You Need to Use a Chroma Key Video Editor

Statistics show that over half of consumers want to see more video content from their favorite brand or business. And people in the U.S. spend about 15% of their day watching social media videos.

Sure, you’re creating tons of videos to meet your target audience’s needs, but are they engaging and entertaining? Most importantly, are you meeting your goals for creating these videos?

An aspect most video creators forget to give the right attention is the background.

The environment your subject is in is the first thing your audience will notice. And they’ll make a subconscious judgment based on what they see.

You don’t want to lose their attention to the distracting movement, items, untidiness, or haywire, happening behind your subject.

Ensure your background sets the right tone for the message you want to convey. It should complement your message, not take the viewer’s attention.

Video chroma key helps you create this perfect environment for your news casts, work or school presentations, YouTube and social media videos, brand videos, or product launch videos.

All you need is a high-quality camera, a tripod to keep the camera stationary, enough lighting, and a green or blue sheet to use in the background.

Shoot as many takes as you need and then use our online green screen video editor free to add any background of your choice. Make your video stand out from the competition with a fantasy-like background, futuristic interiors, or other mind-boggling visual effects.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
